I had never heard of this scientific prize before but a good summary article from the BBC website brought that to my attention.
It also describes this years prizes, including a study the side effects of swallowing swords...
The official website is well worth a look, with the full lst of all winners.
As usual the Wikipedia entry also revealed most informative linking to other "different" prizes:
# Darwin Awards for fatally foolish behavior
Wikipedia also has a entries for "unusual deaths" specially a "List of inventors killed by their own inventions" entry where you learn that Charles Justice was electrocuted in the electric chair he had improved the design of.
# Pigasus Award for paranormal fraud (U.S.)
You can learn there that "Templeton Foundation for spending US$2.4 million and ten years research on a study researching the effectiveness of prayer." ...
# Stella Awards for "outrageous" lawsuits
This blog was born from a very simple question: "How much do I want to annoy people by sending emails about general stuff they might not be bothered with?". The answer being "Not much" I thought it would be better to just put all these things “somewhere” and tell people where to look if they want to. So here is “somewhere”: a dump of things I like, things that I find interesting, funny, shocking. Pretty much anything. Comments are welcome, whether in English or en Francais!
Other things of potential interest...
